Professional Logging and Timber Company Services

Woodlands Enterprises provides a full range of comprehensive services that both increase the value and enhance the quality of your timber.

Thinning – The process of thinning ultimately allows for a much higher quality timber product and increased timber value. The reason that thinning is important is because - with the removal of trees - you are removing the competition for space and nutrients – giving viable trees healthy growing space and access to nutrients that will allow them to reach their potential. The process of thinning includes the removal of dead and/or dying trees.

Clear-cuts – Clearcutting is a forestry practice in which most or all trees in an area are uniformly cut down. Clearcutting, is used to create certain types of forest ecosystems and to promote select species that require an abundance of sunlight or grow in large, even-age stands. Typically clear cuts are used in mature unproductive forest types. It is a tool needed to remove all timber so that an even aged plantation stand can be reestablished. In the southeast pine is usually chosen as the species which is replanted. In most soil types pine has the highest and shortest Return on Investment (ROI). Hardwood stand can established through natural regeneration after clear cuts.

Clearing and Grinding – The harvest process is a multi-faceted one that involves synergy between a variety of operations. Following harvest, the area must be cleared in preparation for replanting and debris removed effectively. At Woodlands Enterprises we implement a clearing plan that is in keeping with safe operating practices and will quickly and efficiently clear the harvest with complete respect for the land.  Our grinding process removes all brush and unwanted trees – turning them into mulch that will eliminate stumps as well as the need to haul away material. This immediately prepares the ground for replanting and allows for instant use.

Prescribed Burning – Prescribed Burning is a completely controlled operation that is utilized in forest management to minimize the potential of destructive natural fire. Additionally, prescribed burning reduces competitive growth, controls disease, improves wildlife habitat, and stimulates germination and renewal.

Best Management Practices (BMP’s) – Following a timber harvest Best Management Practices (BMP’s) are used to ensure that erosion and water quality standards are achieved for the state that the timber harvest is implemented. By using proper forest management and sound conservation practices including BMPs, forests can continue to provide benefits for future generations.

Wildlife and Timber Harvest – Timber harvest is just as important to wildlife as it is to the long term management of the timber asset. Different species of birds and/or animals require different types of forest and/or cover. The type of wildlife a landowner wants to manage and/or harvest often dictates the type of harvest. A landowner can establish various types of areas on their property to manage for different species.

Reforestation – Of course, the removal of trees during harvest clears the land for the next step – replanting. At Woodlands Enterprises we provide tree replanting services to help regenerate your asset and continue the environmental cycle. At Woodlands Enterprises we are as committed to our environmental practices as anything else and the concepts and practices of Sustainable Forestry initiatives.
